Guest author M. 3rd grade tells us about art at Double Creek
This year we did really fun art projects. I'm going to show you art that we made here at Double Creek.
We made drinking-straw flowers. First, we cut up the end of some straws and we stuck the cut up end in some paints. Then, we put the end of the straw on a piece of paper and twirled it.
We tried bleeding tissue paper painting.
First, we put tissue paper on a thick piece of paper in the order that you want them to be in and you gently brush some water over the paper and tissue paper and after a few minutes we peeled off the tissue paper to reveal a beautiful mosaic of color.
Then, we made tissue paper trees. We drew trees and filled them in with markers. We used the same technique as the tissue paper art to make the leaves, sky, and the grass. Some people chose a fall look and some people chose winter.
Every year in October, we go out on a walk to look for these cute, cuddly caterpillars called wooly bears. Since looking for wooly bears is such a fun tradition here at DC, we decided to make their portraits. Fall is also the time when the chickens molt (lose their feathers and start growing back new ones). You can see that our wooly bears are made out of feathers from our chickens. We went out on a walk gathering nature supplies for the wooly bears soft fall beds. We carefully arranged the leaves, twigs, lichen and moss to give our wooly bears a safe place to hibernate.
We played with paint mixing and tints to make these colorful circles. We had to make all of the little tiny individual lines that were exactly one centimeter thick, but you could point them in any direction you wanted, so it was worth it.
