Summer Fun 2023

Every year brings new summer adventures at Double Creek! One favorite event this year was a nature egg drop challenge. Campers designed an egg protector from entirely natural materials. Some creations were inspired by birds' nests, others experimented with mud and sap as glue. We even had a giant skunk cabbage leaf parachute! The kids did a great job working together and were very innovative with their designs. The broken eggs were scrambled up for the chickens to eat, but they didn't get very many!

Showing off the completed projects before the big drop.

Barley, the former barn cat, returned to Double Creek for the week to enjoy scratches and join us on walks in the woods.

Our young artists painted some lovely decorative bird houses.

Who can resist the allure of tie dye? The combination of pattern and color planning mixed with the surprise of the final project is addictive. Look at the lovely creations the kids made!

 Goofing around with forest fashion.

The kids made their own forest playhouse out of invasive plants they had pulled. The campers helped to clear some ivy and other invasives while appreciating the natives that are returning to previously cleared areas. We even spent some time admiring the variety of pollinating bees that hang out at the school.

There is nothing quite like painting with friends! Campers had fun painting themselves and (with consent) each other. The "fizzy" paint tends to tickle. Water play afterwards brought everyone back to (nearly) their usual colors.

Enjoy the end of your summer!
